of the walls in the entryway really made the architectural
details pop, and how the lighter blue in the dining room
felt airy and bright while still giving the space a bit of
depth. And I loved how both rooms looked with the
couch fabric! I also brought home fabric swatches of
both the blue wallcovering and the couch so I could
see how they looked in my own spaces.
When I got home, I started by trying out the blue
wallcovering in my entryway. I knew I wanted to cover
the accent wall behind the stairs with the geometric
pattern, and I had a good idea of how it would look
based on seeing it in the showroom. But I wasn’t sure
how the pattern would work for the rest of the entryway.
So, I simply taped the fabric swatch to the wall in
different areas (using small squares of scotch tape on
the back) to test it out before I committed to installing
the full roll of wallpaper.
I’m so glad I did this! While I still loved the
geometric pattern, I didn’t love how it looked on all
the walls in the entryway. To me, it felt too busy —
I wanted something that felt more calming in that
space. So, I decided to use a different wallcovering
for the rest of the entryway and save the geometric
paper for the accent wall.
Next, I taped the couch fabric swatch next to my
current couches. I liked the way it looked with the
current color of my walls, but I wanted to see how
it would look with the new wallcovering I had picked
out for the entryway. So, I put up a large sample
of the wallcovering on the wall next to the couch in
the family room.
I could immediately see that I loved the way the
wallcovering and couch fabric looked together —
they had a really nice contrast but still felt harmonious.
I was also really happy with how the wallcovering
looked in that space in general — it felt a bit more
sophisticated and luxurious than my current wall
color. So, I decided to use it in both the entryway and
the family room, and I moved forward with ordering
the right amount of fabric and wallcovering.
I’m so glad I took the time to try out the fabric
and wallcovering swatches in my own space before
I committed to installing them. It saved me a lot of
heartbreak and hassle in the long run, and I ended up
with a space that I absolutely love!
